La Grande, Oregon
La Grande School District is located in La Grande, Oregon, nestled in the Grande Ronde valley between the Blue Mountains and the Wallowa Mountains of Northeastern Oregon. We have three elementary schools, Central Elementary, Greenwood Elementary, and Island City Elementary School. The district also includes La Grande Middle School and La Grande High School. We have a total student population for the 2010-2011 school year of about 2200 students. In July of 2009, the district offices moved into Willow School and Willow School and reopened with all Kindergarten classes and the School District main offices.
La Grande has a population of about 13,000 and is the largest city in Union County, Oregon. La Grande is also the home to Eastern Oregon University (EOU). Our city newspaper is the La Grande Observer. For other information about our local area go to La Grande Online.
There are many opportunities for outdoor recreation in our area with the proximity of the Blue Mountains, the Wallowa Mountains, and Hells Canyon of the Snake River. Fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping are enjoyed by many of our residents as well as the many tourists and motorists that travel through La Grande on Interstate 84. We are located 260 miles east of Portland, Oregon and 170 miles west of Boise, Idaho. The Union Pacific railroad line runs through La Grande and the Grande Ronde valley as well, hauling America's freight to and from the west coast. Boise Cascade has manufacturing plants in La Grande in addition to Nash trailers. Many other companies have offices in La Grande as well.
